Why it worksIn Suriname this is made with kousenband, a long bean sold at any toko. Frozen green beans work just as well with the sweet, spicy sauce.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Start cooking the rice as the packet says. Cut the chicken into small pieces. Chop the onion, garlic and tomatoes.
  2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan on high heat. Fry the chicken for 5 minutes, until brown and cooked through. Put it on a plate.
  3. Cook the onion and garlic in the same pan for 3 minutes. Add the frozen green beans and cook for 5 minutes, stirring, until hot.
  4. Add the tomatoes, the ketjap manis, the sambal and the chicken. Cook for 5 more minutes, until everything is shiny. Serve on the rice.

Raw meat and fish: don't wash them. Use a separate board for them, and wash your hands and the knife afterwards.
