Why it worksIn Poland this is made with dried beans and sausage. Tinned beans and bacon give you the same smoky tomato stew in half an hour.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Chop the bacon, onion and garlic. Fry the bacon in a large pot on medium heat for 5 minutes, until the fat melts. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the tomato purée and paprika for 1 minute. Add the chopped tomatoes, the drained white beans, the bay leaves and 200 ml of water.
  3. Let it bubble gently for 20 minutes, stirring now and then, until thick. Take out the bay leaves.
  4. Taste and add salt and pepper. Eat with bread.
